BARBARA VOYLES, Tennis Concierge

Members experience different aspects of the service Reynolds Plantation hourly employees provide; some are in full view, but there are many you don't see.  Barbara Voyles is one of the dedicated Reynolds staff members you may not know, who will benefit from your generous contribution to the Employee Appreciation Fund.

As Tennis Concierge, Barbara provides a variety of services to members and their guests, including scheduling lessons and court bookings, and setting up matches for players with similar abilities.  She’s also front and center in the tennis shop and assists with purchases of equipment, clothes, and shoes.  Barbara says one of her most important jobs is continually reuniting members with their “left-behind parts and pieces!”

Barbara has worked at Reynolds Plantation for the past three years.  During her first days here she and a partner still owned a kitchen and gift shop in Madison – many members may have shopped at Sally’s before it closed in March of 2008 after 14 years in business.  The shop carried gourmet kitchen items and hosted cooking classes.  Barbara’s favorite products were the specialty baking items like silpats (for cheese crisps), clay pot cookware, unique cookbooks, and specialty syrups and glazing sugars.  She still bakes bread regularly in a French bread clay baker that, over time, develops the best patina for a savory bread crust.

Although she truly misses the joy of working with her customers on creating some of the most delightful culinary creations, Barbara says she has found her current home at the tennis center just as special when taking care of the tennis needs of members and guests.

Barbara and her husband, Herb, have three children and one granddaughter.  Outside of work, Barbara enjoys reading, walking, and playing tennis – she’s the local USTA league coordinator.  She also serves as president of the Women’s Club at her church.

“The wonderful gift of employee appreciation is so special and allowed me to treat my family to a special Christmas meal together.”
